RADb Service Description
The RADb is a routing registry service operated by Merit Network Inc. The RADb service
offers public whois queries and support for automated tools (e.g. IRRToolSet). Many Internet operators
rely upon the RADb to debug routing problems, automatically configure
backbone routers, generate access lists, and perform network planning.
I. Components of the RADb Service
Merit will:
- Provide a mechanism to register routing information in the RADb
- Provide mechanisms for Internet users to use the information in the
RADb
- Work closely with maintainer owners to ensure the accuracy of the
information in the RADb
II. Your Responsibilities
Registering a route in the RADb implies that you are able to provide
reachability to that destination, i.e., the destination is reachable via
your network infrastructure. When you register routing policy in the
RADb, it is assumed that the your routing implementation reflects that
policy, i.e., the configuration of routers in your network is consistent
with that policy.
When registering routing information in the RADb, you assume primary
responsibility for the accuracy of the registered
data.
You are responsible for keeping your information
up-to-date to maintain the overall accuracy of the RADb. You are
obliged to work with Merit should the registered data
not reflect routing reality, and/or the routing policy conflicts with
other registrations, as determined by Merit. If you do
not respond to Merit's requests to update or remove invalid data,
Merit has the option to modify or delete the data from the RADb.
It is recommended that you avoid registering the same
information in multiple registries in the IRR. This is an attempt to
ensure that the information with regard to the particular registrant
is in sync with the various registries, special efforts should be made
to ensure the information is in sync.
You are responsible for understanding and complying with all
terms of the RADb Maintainer
Object Agreement, including the following:
- Paying a fee of $250 for each maintainer object to be registered
in the RADb. If the $250 fee has not been paid within forty-five (45)
days of registration, the maintainer will be deleted from the RADb.
- Renewing the RADb Maintainer
Object Agreement annually to ensure uninterupted RADb service.
Currently, the annual renwal fee is $250. Maintainer objects not
renewed within ninety (90) days of the annual renewal date will be
deleted from the RADb.
- Providing to Merit current contact information to be used for
billing and problem resolution. Merit is committed to protecting the
privacy of all users of its networks, host computers, products, and
services in accordance with the Merit
Privacy Policy.
III. Merit's Responsibilities
Merit will update the RADb as soon as the registration information is
submitted and passes preliminary checking, including syntax and
authorization checking. Provided you are in compliance with
the terms of the RADb Maintainer Object
Agreement, Merit will not modify the data in the RADb unless such
modification is requested or permitted by you.
Merit will actively verify the data by
periodically comparing the information to Internet routing reality.
Should Merit detect policy conflicts, or should the data not reflect
routing reality, we will make a good faith effort to work with you to
resolve any conflicts. However, if you fail to respond
to Merit's requests to resolve a conflict,
Merit has the option to modify or delete the invalid data.
Merit has the option to flag the data, should we detect that the data
does not reflect routing reality, in an effort to provide those who
generate router configurations from the RADb with the data that more
closely reflects Internet routing reality. To the same end, Merit also
has the option of maintaining a subset database that only includes
information verified by Merit.
Important:Merit's policy is to delete data from the
RADb if the maintainer owner is not in compliance with the fee payment
and
contact information requirements of the RADb Maintainer Object Agreement.
Merit also has the option to update or remove data that is
inconsistent with the authoritative information maintained by the
Regional Internet Registries such as: ARIN, APNIC, RIPE NCC, and LACNIC.
Merit is committed to protecting the privacy of all users of its
networks, host computers, products, and services. Please review the Merit
Privacy Policy.
Merit offers the RADb as a best effort service. We cannot guarantee the
reachability of destinations for routes registered in the RADb, nor can
we guarantee that routers are configured in a way that is consisted with
policy registered in the RADb
Who May Use the RADb Service?
The RADb is a repository of Internet routing information. It may be
used by anyone to register their routing information, provided they
closely follow the guidelines described in Section II above. In
addition, information registered in the RADb may be queried by anyone.
